Episode Notes

Daughter of Swords – "Fields of Gold" (Soundcheck Podcast)

Daughter of Swords is the stage name of singer and guitarist Alex Sauser-Monnig, whose songs draw on the sounds and the community of Appalachian folk music. Sauser-Monnig is part of the vibrant folk scene in North Carolina, and is one third of the popular folk trio called Mountain Man, a group with no actual men in it, and half of the slightly more pop-leaning duo The A’s. But as Daughter of Swords, Sauser-Monnig fuses the so-called “high lonesome sound” of traditional Appalachian music with contemporary storytelling. Their solo set in our studio is today’s episode of Soundcheck, our twice weekly podcast, available wherever you get podcasts or at newsounds.org.
