Episode Notes

Jake Blount at Jalopy

Sept. 19. 8:30PM. $20-$25.

Jake Blount is a singer, banjo player, fiddler, and musicologist. After offering a queer Black vision of bluegrass music with his 2019 album Spider Tales, Blount began exploring original music that blended Afrofuturism with old spirituals and other folk songs. Now he’s preparing a new project that moves into a different musical territory altogether, but first, he’s releasing a final album of string band music called Single-Footing Horse. That album is out today, and includes a version of “When The Angels Call My Name.” Jake Blount plays on Sept. 19 at Jalopy in Brooklyn.
