The Messthetics is a punk-jazz trio consisting of improvising guitarist Anthony Pirog and the rhythm section of the old punk band Fugazi. Their latest album, called Deface The Currency, is a collaboration with sax player James Brandon Lewis, but on August 15, as part of the New York Guitar Festival, they’ll swap out the sax and swap in the unpredictable guitar of Marc Ribot. Night two of the New York Guitar Festival, called "The Misbehaving Guitar" promises to be a wild ride  featuring The Messthetics with special guest Marc Ribot; Pierre Bensusan playing open-tuning explorations of Celtic, North African, jazz, and electronics; and Gyan Riley’s cosmic mix of psychedelia, minimalism, and contemporary classical music.
