Sudanese-American bandleader Sinkane, aka Ahmed Gallab, weaves the sounds of Afrobeat, disco, funk, and soul into his irresistible, dance-ready songs. Sinkane plays the summer edition of globalFEST on Aug. 1.
globalFEST: Sinkane at Lincoln Center Summer for the City
Aug. 1. 6PM. FREE.
Sinkane is the musical project led by Ahmed Gallab, a Sudanese-American singer and bandleader based here in New York. Sinkane’s music is a dance-ready mix of funk, rock, West African music, and soul. It also has a clear sense of community, especially in the Motown-inspired choruses, and even more so when the band is playing live, as they’ll do tomorrow in a special summer edition of the annual GlobalFest. Sinkane is part of a summer edition of GlobalFest, on a lineup that also includes the sounds of Cape Verde and Morocco, on Aug. 1 at the Dance Floor at Lincoln Center. And it’s free.
