Upper Wilds is a Brooklyn-based melodic fuzz rock band led by singer and guitarist Dan Friel. The band has spent the past eight years doing a series of albums named after each of the planets, and using the characteristics of those planets as a metaphor for the things Friel likes to sing about. The new Upper Wilds album is called Mercury, and it offers a chance to hear a mercurial tale about a grim reaper whose heart just may not be in his work anymore. Upper Wilds plays on Sept. 15 at Union Pool in Brooklyn.
